Three Fun Things to Do as a Family in Your Own Backyard This Summer

Summertime presents a great opportunity for families to spend time together. The kids are out of school and parents are more likely to be able to do things with their children. But you don’t have to leave home to have fun. In fact, you can have loads of fun in your own backyard. Here are a few family-friendly, super-fun backyard ideas that your kids would love.

Declare Full-Out Backyard War with Water Balloons, NERF Blasters, and Lots of Places to Hide

It can be both stress relieving and super-fun to declare combat on your kiddos. Grab a few NERF blasters, set up barrels to hide behind, and fill up a few buckets of water balloons as projectiles. You could even heave gigantic, ouch-free paintballs (no paintball gun required). No keeping score—just squeals and giggles while you all run for cover. You could also use a hose if you have a well water pump Cabarrus County NC (because city water would be expensive).

Camp Out with a Firepit, Tents, Sleeping Bags, Smores, and Campfire Supplies to Make Breakfast the Next Morning

You don’t have to head to a park or hiking spot to have a good camping “trip.” Gather around a backyard firepit with bags of marshmallows, chocolate bars, and graham crackers. Tell some not-so-scary ghost stories. Play flashlight tag as soon as the sun goes down. Then retire for the night in tents with the intent to have a campfire breakfast in the a.m.

Tip: Make a true camp out of your backyard with carnival-style games before the sun sets. Set up little stations of balloon darts, ring tosses, and cornhole to rack up scores and bragging rights.

Simply Lie Down in the Grass and Look at the Clouds Together. Not so Keen on the Grass Idea? Lie Back on a Trampoline Instead.

Sometimes there’s nothing more relaxing and fun than lying back and watching the clouds go by. As a family, lie down in the grass and see what shapes you can see in the clouds. This is also a great idea with stars at nighttime. If you’re not much for the grass idea, lie down on the trampoline instead. The same fun but a slightly bouncier base underneath you.
