PORTAGE, MI — The Portage City Council gave the green light to a new 180-unit apartment complex this week.

“Tall Timbers,” a three-building apartment complex, will be constructed as part of the Greenspire Planned Development, according to a proposal approved by the Portage City Council Tuesday, May 24.

The new apartment complex will include three, five-story buildings comprised of 180 multi-family units at 3413 W. Centre Ave., the proposal said. The complex is the seventh phase in Greenspire Planned Development, a more than 100-acre development off of Centre Avenue east of U.S. 131.

Construction of the apartments is scheduled to begin this summer. The complex will include parking garages in each building and community spaces between each of the apartment buildings.

Already existing in the development are the 700-unit Greenspire Apartments and 13,000 square feet of retail and office space. Developers are also planning more retail space in 2024 and additional apartments in fall 2026, the proposal said.
