Real estate developers are eying a long-vacant East Dallas block for a new rental community.

The high-traffic site is east of downtown on Live Oak Street.

Formerly the site of old apartments and homes, the property at Live Oak and Bennett Avenue is in an area that’s seeing widespread redevelopment.

Illinois-based Conor Commercial Real Estate is working on plans to build a large apartment community on the block.

The five-story, almost half million-square-foot development would start this spring, according to planning documents filed with the state.

The more than $50 million project would open in early 2024.

Merriman Anderson Architects is designing the new rental complex.

Based in suburban Chicago, Conor Commercial has been in business since 1988 building apartment, office and industrial properties.

The company has built apartments in Illinois and the Austin area.

In Dallas, Conor Commercial has a medical building on North Central Expressway.

The area of East Dallas near the developer’s Live Oak site is seeing construction of a large number of condominiums and apartment projects.
