For her modern collaboration with Crate and Barrel Athena embraced the thought throughout the selection: in the A Coste glassware, the Pompeii pedestal, the Cannelée vase sequence, mugs, and linen lamp shades. It all started out in the fluted portal entry of her Brooklyn bathroom, a house in her household that available small utility—or as most designers could see it, an prospect to make an area as impactful as feasible. “On my grasp ground, architecture educated the space,” Athena explains in her book Reside Wonderful. “Grand double doorways led to the master toilet, boasting an outdated-environment fashion bathtub, plaster partitions, and a marble hearth, but the hallway in between served no function,” she carries on.
The option lies in classical architecture. “Obsessed with collecting plinths and pillars for the house, I was captivated to historic Greek marble columns, but it was not until finally I noticed a wooden-paneled room at the University of Padua intended by Gio Ponti that I found what I was immediately after. I wrapped fluted plaster up the partitions and about the ceiling…,” she states. Athena brought in Kamp Studios to carry her vision to lifestyle and the appear has soared in reputation at any time since (not to point out cemented their position as the chief in the outdated-entire world plaster system).
