The sunkissed region of Murcia in south eastern Spain is popular with expats and offers easy access to beaches. Many Britons enjoy visiting Spain’s golf courses while on holiday and the sport can play an important role in expat life.

Real estate company LACOOP said that demand for properties on golf courses had increased by 67 percent in the last year in Murcia.

A spokesperson said: “Buyers are especially interested in areas where they can be in contact with nature and practice outdoor sports, such as golf.”

The most in demand houses in Murcia were located on golf courses with a swimming pool and solarium.

Three bedroom houses were the most popular while buyers were also looking for a two car garage.

Golf course properties are often popular with buyers looking for a safe area with good security.

Courses normally have their own security team which sometimes extends to the properties based on the site.

Expats looking for a buzzing social life could also consider a golf course property as the clubhouses often have a full social event calendar for residents.

As the properties are highly sought after, they usually have a high resale value and can make a good investment.

Although golf course properties had grown in popularity in Murcia, Mallorca was recently found to be the most searched second home destination with buyers.

Mallorca was extremely popular with Britons looking for a holiday home in the summer months of June, July and August.

Unsurprisingly the top expat destination of Costa del Sol also made the top three most searched for locations.

In the research by property company Rightmove, Ibiza, Tenerife, Menorca and Alicante were also in the top ten destinations.
