A fire left 20 families displaced. One organization is standing in to help

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF)  — In 2022, Nashville fireplace crews have responded to 61 condominium fires.

Some are smaller with insignificant damage. Other individuals are intense — like last month’s blaze that tore by way of a creating at the Foxcroft advanced in southeast Nashville. Surprisingly, no one was damage. But 20 units have been ruined, leaving dozens of families with nowhere to go.

Diane Janbakhsh — founder of the Hispanic Family members Foundation — was among the the initial of the volunteers on the scene.

“Of training course, they ended up concerned,” Janbakhsh claimed. “They ended up devastated. The problems of the complicated have been that the whole developing was burnt to a crisp. You know that 3rd floor collapsed upon itself. Thank God there have been no casualties. “It was seriously definitely sad. They experienced nowhere to go, they lost every little thing. Almost everything. I mean — everything, every thing. They misplaced everything. So they experienced nowhere to go, no one particular to switch to, and which is the place we stepped in.”

The afternoon of the fire, NewsChannel 5 spoke with Lazaro Gonzales, a husband and father of two.

“I necessarily mean I never know what we are gonna do now. I mean, everything’s absent. Just gone. Just like that,” Gonzales explained.

But also “just like that,” all those households would have the support they necessary.

“Initial items initially, let us get a roof over someone’s head,” Janbakhsh mentioned. “Let us get them protected, let’s get them protected. And then we are going to swap almost everything that was missing.”

As usual, the Red Cross was there promptly, providing non permanent assistance and housing. But Janbakshs explained significant shelters can be scary.

“When you have infants, when you have kids, when you have little youngsters — you’re not gonna want to go, particularly with an immigrant mentality. You happen to be not gonna go be in a significant place with a bunch of strangers sleeping,” she explained. “I suggest it is pretty frightening.”

Donations poured in: clothing, meals, even some home furniture. But the instant need is virtually usually hard cash.

“If all the things is in position and the funding is there, you can right away be in a position to give them cash to say ‘here’s your deposit, this is your to start with month’s rent — go.”

But with present day true estate current market which is not straightforward. Reasonably priced apartments like these are scarce.
