Easter is just around the corner, on Sunday, April 17. While Easter bonnets and Easter fashion parades may be a thing of the past, Easter is still one of the most egg-citing and egg-ceptional days of the year for kids of all ages.

With that in mind, you’ve probably already decorated your home for spring, purchased new outfits for church and settled on an Easter menu for the family dinner – but you should also check out some of the family and community events scheduled around the holiday.

We know all the places in and around Indianapolis to be this holiday season to have a little fun, so check out our guide below:

Easter Egg Hunt Extravaganza – April 16, from 10-11 a.m.

The Allisonville Christian Church is holding its annual Easter egg hunt, but there will be music, art projects, crafts and a bounce house, too, once the hunt is over. This makes it the perfect place to take kids of all ages.

Adult Easter Egg Hunt – April 15, from 7-8 p.m.

Why should kids have all the fun, right? If you’re looking for a little grown-up fun for the holiday, hop on over to Daniel’s Vineyard in McCordsville for an adults-only Easter egg hunt. Instead of candy, prizes include gift cards for the winery, Summer Concert Series tickets and other goodies. There’s also a prize for the “best dressed,” so drag out those old bunny ears and costumes and be ready to strut your stuff!

Easter Train Rides – April 16, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Everybody hop onboard: The Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum’s most popular event of the year has returned! You can take your entire family on an adventure from North Judson and over the Kankakee River bridge, before heading back again where the kids can score an in-person visit with the Easter Bunny and participate in an Easter Egg Hunt (segregated by age groups, to make it easier for the little ones). This is a particularly nice experience if you have kids in multiple age groups and want to bring grandparents along.

Easter B(EEG) Boneanza! – Wednesday, April 13, 6 p.m.

Your dog is just like a kid with fur and a tail, right? Well, bring that good boy (or girl) to Daniel’s Vineyard for an Easter egg hunt that’s specifically designed for your furbaby’s delight. The eggs are filled with dog-friendly treats and the event is free – so come for the fun and the photo opportunities with your pets.

Teen Wooden Egg Decorating – April 16, 1 p.m.

Who says teenagers are too old to enjoy decorating Easter eggs? The Danville-Center Township Public Library is having a craft day with wooden eggs where teenagers are invited to let their inner artists shine. Once the decorations are done, a movie and snacks will follow.

Easter Egg-Stravaganza! – April 16, 1-2 p.m.

If you like the idea of taking your little ones on an Easter Egg hunt but you’re not optimistic about the weather, why not try an indoor hunt? Ellenberger Park is having its very first Easter event, and it’s all indoors. This event is geared only for children seven years of age and under, but there will be plenty of age-appropriate games and prizes (along with an egg hunt). Pre-registration is required.

Easter Egg Hunt at the Indianapolis Zoo – April 16 and April 17, 12 p.m. and 12:20 p.m.

The Indianapolis Zoo is always a fun place to visit, but that’s particularly true during spring. This Easter weekend, the Zoo will host its very first Easter egg hunts on both Saturday and Sunday, segregated by age group. Kids from three years of age through six will be able to enjoy their hunt starting promptly at noon, while kids aged seven and older will have their hunt start at 12:20 p.m. The Easter Bunny is also expected to make a personal appearance, all thanks to Kinder Joy®.

Easter Egg 5K and Egg Hunt – April 16, 10 a.m.

Whether you want to run it, walk it or hop your way through it, the 5K Easter Egg marathon is back at Southeastway Park. Pick your team (purple or blue) and see who wins – then participate in the family-style (adults and children alike) Easter egg hunt after. There will also be treats available, including wine and beer for the grown-ups – and you need not feel guilty about the calories after all that exercise!

EGGnormous Egg Hunt with a Twist – April 16, 9-10:45 a.m.

Looking for some EGGstreme fun with egg games? Well, look no further! The party at Zionsville Lions Park starts at 9 in the morning with face painting, the Easter Bunny and Miss Indiana Princesses. Games for the kids start at 9:30 a.m., with the “Egg Stroll” for the toddlers (ages one to two) at 10 a.m. Regular Easter Egg hunts begin at 10:30 a.m. with staggered times for different age groups. This is the 31st year the Zionsville Lions Club has been holding egg hunts, so they have “how to have fun” down to a science!

Easter Parade and Breakfast with the Easter Bunny – April 16, 9-11 a.m., and 3 p.m.

Okay, maybe Easter Parades haven’t totally gone out of fashion. Edinburgh Parks and Recreation cordially invites you to join them at the John R. Drybread Community Center for breakfast and a photo op with the Easter Bunny from 9-11 a.m. A traditional Easter Parade will be held later in the day, at 3 p.m., starting downtown. (Pre-registration is required for breakfast and pictures with the Easter Bunny, and children must be accompanied by an adult.)

Whatever your plans this holiday, we wish you all of the abundance and joy that the season brings!
